On 5 August 2026 Allianz announced that Allianz Global Investors has agreed to acquire UOB Asset Management, which manages EUR 28 billion and is present in eight Asian markets, for SGD 555 million (EUR 376 million), accompanied by a long-term distribution agreement with UOB. Completion is expected in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
Our interpretation · working hypothesis
AllianzGI is paying EUR 376 million for EUR 28 billion of assets in eight Asian markets together with a long-term distribution agreement with UOB, which suggests the value lies as much in access to the bank's clients as in the assets acquired. It adds third-party asset-management fees, although the release does not say whether any Allianz general-account assets are affected, and it is the opposite choice to AXA's 2025 sale of its manager; one pair of decisions does not show which model creates more value. The price is more likely to pay off if the agreement brings new money in, so flows sourced through UOB after completion in 2027 are the test.
